NEW ZEALAND v SLOVAKIA
15 June 2010

Slovakia, and much of the world, was stunned when a goal deep in injury time from Winston Reid handed the All Whites a 1-1 draw against Slovakia. Coach Ricki Herbert hailed the draw as one of the best results in his nations football history. It was also New Zealands first goal in the finals in 28 years and sparked wild celebrations.

NEW ZEALAND v ITALY
21 June 2010

If the first match was a surprise, the All Whites 1-1 draw with football powerhouse Italy was a huge upset as Shane Smeltz became the first A League player to score in a World Cup. Italy dominated the contest but could not score until a contentious penalty spared Italy from embarrassment and left New Zealand with a real possibility of making the second round for the first time.

NEW ZEALAND v PARAGUAY
25 June 2010

A courageous All White team left nothing on the field in their bid to beat Paraguay, but the fairytale ended as they could only manage a goal-less draw. Coach Ricki Herbert felt his side bowed out of the World Cup with pride as it missed an historical qualification for the knockout stages by a solitary point. The All Whites returned to a heroes welcome.

Quotes

"It will be just the second time the All Whites appear at a finals and the first since Spain in 1982, when present coach Ricki Herbert was in the squad. Herbert was virtually speechless immediately after the match. "This group behind me, they've given it everything - four years of total commitment," he said. "We're back. We're there. South Africa, here we are"." Sydney Morning Herald 14 November 2009

Manbeast, a tip for you: after you compile your "Queue" selection of DVDs you want in order of preference, then every time after they send you a packet of three DVDs, tick them as "Returned" at the top of your "Queue" the next morning and they'll send you another three automatically. They mail to you fastpost and the return reply-paid envelopes are also Fastpost.

Other football DVDs at Fatso: 2010 World Cup Final; (bizarrely) Socceroos World Cup 2010 DVD
(all 3 games: relive their humiliation!)
+ Good drama of George Best's life- recent Irish film "Best: His Mother's Son" (she was also an alcoholic)- about his early career, has some match footage and recreates the era well.
Look in Fatso's sports section and you will find others...also enter "football" in the search category and lots of football DVDs and games will come up, plus enter individual clubs' names e.g. "Manchester United."
Aslo click on their "Suggest a DVD" tab and they'll often purchase stuff.

Haven't watched these DVDs but assume actual game playing time of three matches would be 3 X 93 mins. = 279 mins. approx.
Length of three DVDs is listed as 321 mins. , so that's another 40 mins approx. unaccounted for.
So, depends how much time is taken up by pre-match stuff like national anthems, team listings etc. Could be some interviews amongst that 40 mins...

Actually, just came across the Socceroos World Cup DVD set in the same series and it mentions it has "interviews and special comments" :
" This multi-disc set includes the complete matches played by the Socceroos in South Africa: June 13 Germany v Australia June 19 Ghana v Australia June 23 Australia v Serbia:
Plus interviews and special comments."

Suggest people request their local public libraries to buy this DVD and get it out there.
Most libraries have a "request to buy" form you can fill out online and they'll often kindly purchase it for you and let you know when it arrives. I've successfully got Christchurch City Libraries to purchase heaps of stuff over the years. They don't know there's a demand unless you ask for it.

Christchurch City Libraries "Request to Buy" form if you live in Canterbury:

Find the same for your local library online.

Where is the commentary from?

Is it rubbishy NZers like you know who or is quality from Europe?

Also I'd love to see a similar set covering the qualifiers inc moments like Mossey giving the ref one against Fiji etc. Through to Rory's header.  Hey even a one disc set with handy-cams from those who supported NZ footie prior to the Bahrain games would be sweet.

If it's SBS then you would think it's going to be all Fozzie & Les Murray?

If you watch TV One's world Cup coverage, it is the same, minus post match, pre match and half time analysis. Just walking out, anthems and game-time.

(Although I am basing this on watching the first DVD)

So its official FIFA commentators and not De Jong etc?

Living in the UK I only had access to the BBC & ITV commentators but then they are miles ahead of the commentators in Aussie and NZ.
