Sorry bud, I might not have put that well. When I said Whitecaps Prospects was probably scrapped, I didn't mean that Vancouver's academy was - rather that one of their many development teams, specifically the one named "Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects", has likely been dis-established. The Under-23 team (Vancouver Whitecaps Residency) still exists, and it is this team for which McKendry is attached to rather than the defunct Vancouver Whitecaps Prospect team you linked to earlier (although you're hardly to blame for Wikipedia being inaccurate ). Toronto FC has one academy team. Vancouver Whitecaps FC has several, and is regarded as having the best developmental system in all of Canada.

Vancouver has programs all the way down to Under-12 level for both genders, and were heavy pushers for the recent MLS development reform that allows for greater room to promote academy players. The Whitecaps will certainly retain this developmental focus in MLS. Hopefully (as a supporter of both Canadian and Kiwi football, and a long-time Whitecaps follower) McKendry will get a decent go in the Whitecaps system.

Actually I wasn't able to find any list of the players at the U20 camp in Auckland. The two that I am sure that they are part of this camp are Thomas Doyle and Colin Murphy. Is it possible that Milicich want to keep the list of 30 secret until he reveals the 22 selected?

Anyone else here about this? Bloody sad.
The article is a bit confusing as to who played for NZ U20 but I think it was Jonathan Ross though his name wasn't included in previous lists in this thread.

Latest on what is happening with other teams qualifying for Colombia:

South American qualifying tournie starts today:

"Even though the Argentina squad is packed with players who are already enjoying regular first-team football with some of the countrys biggest clubs, they face a stern test in the first phase of the competition. Waiting for them in Group A are seven-time continental champions Uruguay as well as Peru, Chile and Venezuela, who ended their hopes of qualifying for Egypt 2009 at the last South American Youth Championship."

"Runners-up at the last FIFA U-20 World Cup and ten times the top dogs in South America, Brazil are the other side strongly fancied to excel in Peru. As if that record were not imposing enough, coach Ney Franco can also call on the services of Santos forward Neymar, who has already been capped at senior level and scored 17 goals in the Brazilian championship last season.

Though he will surely miss his strike partner Coutinho, currently out with injury at Inter Milan, Neymar has the ability to lead the Seleo attack with distinction when they take on Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay in Group B"

Already qualified from other Confederations:
England, Spain, Croatia, Austria, Portugal, France
Australlia, North Korea, South Korea, Saudi Arabia

African qualification: 18 March- 1 April
CONCACAF: 3 April- 17 April

Draw for Finals in early May after OFC qualifiers finish on April 29.

Tickets for Finals on sale now: prices start at equivalent 19 British pounds (about $NZ 40)

Political situation seems to have quietened after bombings around the country following last year's elections. Still, it's the kind of country where you have to have your wits about you.
A Brazilian friend tells me tourism is picking up there now  and it's fairly safe.

Actually chris milicic already spoke well about liam graham at vicenza. Luis Esteves is adapting to the European style of play and isn't playing a lot with Belenenses Juniores. For Moffat and Hart, I didn't find many informations about them but there are only 16 years old so if they are good players we're going to hear about them in the future.

Not sure if McKendry would like to represent NZ or Canada:

These latest squad announcements come on the heels of last month's Canadian U-18 national team training camp, in which four Residency players took part. Goalkeeper Callum Irving, centre back Ben McKendry, defender Tim Hickson, and midfielder Ben Fisk were part of a 20-player squad that travelled to San Jose, Kosta Rica, for the training camp in late January.

I believe the list is of players overseas only. For some reason Abris doesn't believe the majority of the top teenagers in NZ are still plying their trade in this country. Plus it will cost so much to bring in a whole squad of overseas players. There's some talent running around in the ASB Premiership and lower grades that will ease through selection. Just because someone's brother is in the All Whites and you live in Japan doesn't make you good.
