From the above list I would have thought your starting CB combo would be smith and reid? with libby and roux as LB and RB....

Boxall has to be in the starting XI on form. Had a strong MLS campaign. Either ahead of Reid or as a RB.

Reid has barely played in 18 mths. Will be rusty and likely not match fit.

A start against Lithuania probably suits him better, but I guess it all depends in what condition he is in at the moment.

I’d put Tuiloma in there somewhere as well, maybe as DM. All 3 MLS CBs had pretty good seasons.

Roughie hunch. Wood or Reid see Pijnaker up close and recommend him to one of their English club connections for a youth contract.

Is it just the 5 Nix players who will miss selection for the first game due the long distance/short game turnaround, or does it also include the other 3 A League players?

If all 8 are not available for the first game, only gives Hay 16 players (provided all fit) for the Ireland match.

A fit Reid would be second (after Wood) name on the team sheet but he's just come back from 18 months out, he's probably on a recovery plan with the West Ham doctors and physios and I doubt he (or WH) would want to jeporadise that for a international friendly.

He's not there to make tackles, he's there coz he's bringing some mana in his suitcase

Danny Hay to trial no-captain AWs.

Whilst I remain rather skeptical of Hay and he'll have to work hard to convince me he is the right man for the job, I actually support this decision and I'm keen to see how this trial goes.

Establishing a successful leadership group within the team is more important than appointing a captain who may be unavailable for a sizable chunk of the International calendar (due to injury or club commitments).

"Hay confirmed to Newshub he is likely to select two separate playing 11's for the two fixtures to enable him to evaluate his entire squad."

Looks likely to be a non A League (MLS/Euro) based team against Ireland, and a mostly A League selection in game two.

I'd be interested to know if they are as well. They would have to be opening earlier than they usually would but they do that every now and then anyway for big games and things like the Liverpool games for LFC Wellington.

Just did, they won't open for it unfortunately.

I rang the Southern Cross and they said they will show it if I ask but without commentary.

Places like Green Man or D4 might be showing it.

Will call them later on today. Not thrilled about watching without commentary so hopefully either of those venues will be show it with sound.

I think they usually open at 11am so that's 2.5 hours early for a friendly against a second string Republic of Ireland friendly...I can understand why they wouldn't to be honest, though I'm still gutted.

Every coach we have had has claimed they were going to play pretty football and everyone has failed horribly to do so.

Will not be shocked to see the same here from Jobs for my mates Hay.

Assuming Joe Bell plays, when is the last time a player was capped without ever having signed a professional contract?

Andy Barron springs to mind.

There would be loads. Lewis, Dyer, TAHW, Billingsley..

Technically any player picked direct from Handy Prem, with no prior pro football overseas experience

He also took the field in the 2010 WC vs Italy as an amateur IIRC. Good player though..

God, Hudson was giving it away. Kind of disappointed I didn't get the call-up.

Joining an illustrious club that Anthony created then. I think he'll go a bit further than any of those 13(!) players though.
