Why would you select players who have not played or were unfit? Nepotism

Same goes for the backroom staff, all Hay's boys who have never done the job before.

I think he was referring to not playing internationally in a while, most, if not all of our players are playing professionally and regularly.

"At times the lack of fitness was evident from us" does seem to contradict that.

Yeah, nah. Plenty not getting regular game time in their environments.

They might be friendlies but are still important.  If players who are lacking form are picked there is very little incentive to get to peak fitness for future Internationals.

Having said that Reid and Ryan were two of the best. Most of the others don't have that level of quality to make up for their lack of International game fitness.

OK so who wasn't included in this squad who should have been or are these the best players available?

I guess you are laughing at Cacace's pretence at defending.  I think he would be better further up the pitch.

I got up at 3am and watched the whole match.  It was awful.  I've been tired and grumpy at work all day. I can handle teams needing time to gel.  I can handle new internationals being under pressure.  I can handle difficult conditions in unfamiliar environments.  I struggle with men whose full time job it is to kick, pass and control a football repeatedly seeming to be incapable of kicking, passing and controlling a football. It might be knackeredness clouding my brain, but I think Fiji would've done better against that Lithuania team today.  If we need to blood young guys like today's lineup, why don't we host Fiji or Tahiti in NZ rather than fly them to the other side of the world? European fixtures should be where we really do our best to hit our straps, not integrate teenagers. Of course, if we'd won, I'd be lauding the awesome idea of taking teenagers to the other side of the world to gain invaluable experience...

I think they did when the under 23 s won the Pacific Cup and beat the senior sides of the islands, playing a good brand of football?

So you wouldn’t have selected Reid? And a coach doesn’t pick his staff? Who is your son who missed out?

Kosta for one, Maybe Moss, Stensness? Waine?

Kosta asked not to be selected this time around, and Moss is not the future. At least in goal we have a number of options, and Moss' time there is done. Waine probably should have gone ahead of someone like Mata, and arguably Stensness would have been a better choice than McGlinchey at least.

agree re Kosts - hopefully he is available, especially given the form he is in. Has to be better than Rojas upfront, Woud isnt really who I see as the future in goal, his distributions was awful, Perhaps Sail instead? I'd have thought weemac has played himself out of any future selections, same with Ridenton.

Ridenton  has been for some time Crap. When at the Nix he was  "The Scapegoat" a well earned title.

There's also Tzanev and Crocombe as options in goal.

just watching the replay of the goal they scored, totally down to a lack of defensive effort from the midfield three, all of them were sitting way too deep and let the striker take all the time he needed.

I'd be worried if there were any commercial impacts of the lost to Lithuania.  Will this make it harder to get friendlies in the future with decent opposition.

bottom line is that even in our hey day, we have never been strong enough as a football country to play a so called A and B team

We did it here because we had too really

Put our strongest side out and give them a few games over time to gell and we shouldn't embarrass ourselves

Actually think our Olympics side if we can insert Reid, Thomas and Wood with a few games build up will be quite a  nice team

Auckland will rise once more

Based on the two games, I’d say our strongest Xl right now would include Kosta over Just and Rojas over Mccowatt.
Also, can Tuiloma still play RB?

Depth is of deep concern.
